What SoundScope Does

SoundScope is a real-time audio spectrogram and sound recognition app. It uses your device's microphone to visualize audio frequencies and identify sounds using on-device AI.

Microphone Access

SoundScope requires microphone access to function. All audio is processed entirely on your device:

  • Audio is captured, analyzed, and displayed in real-time
  • Sound classification (YAMNet, 521 classes) runs locally via TensorFlow Lite
  • Audio recording is manual only — you must explicitly tap a record button to save audio
  • Recording only works while the app is in the foreground — no background recording
  • Recorded audio is stored locally on your device and is never transmitted to external servers
  • When you close the app, audio capture stops immediately

GPS and Location

SoundScope offers an optional GPS Sound Recording feature:

  • Location data is collected only when you explicitly start a GPS recording session
  • GPS coordinates are stored locally on your device in JSON format
  • Location data is never transmitted to external servers
  • You can delete recorded sessions at any time from within the app

Saved Sound Samples

When you save a sound sample, the audio snippet is stored locally on your device. Saved samples are never uploaded or shared unless you explicitly choose to share them using your device's share functionality.

Advertising

SoundScope displays advertisements through Google AdMob. AdMob may use anonymous device identifiers to serve relevant ads. We do not serve adult or inappropriate advertisements. All ads are family-friendly.

Data Sharing

We do not sell, share, or transmit any personal data to third parties. Audio, GPS, and sound sample data remains entirely on your device.

Data Collection Summary

  • Audio: Processed locally, never stored or transmitted
  • GPS: Stored locally when user starts recording, never transmitted
  • Sound samples: Stored locally, never uploaded
  • Personal information: Not collected
  • Device identifiers: Used only by Google AdMob for ad serving and by the platform for anonymous crash reporting

Data Retention

Audio is processed in real-time and never stored. GPS recordings and saved sound samples are stored locally on your device. Uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data. You can also delete individual recordings from within the app at any time.

Children's Privacy

SoundScope is designed to be family-friendly. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The app complies with COPPA requirements.

Third-Party Services

Your Rights (GDPR / CCPA)

SoundScope does not collect personal data on external servers. Audio and GPS data remains entirely on your device. The only data processed externally is anonymous advertising identifiers by Google AdMob.

Under GDPR (EEA/UK) and CCPA (California), you have the right to:

  • Access, rectify, or delete any personal data
  • Opt out of personalized advertising (via device settings)
  • Request data portability
  • Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority
